Remove Unsupported Antivirus Software
Summary
Kent State University provides McAfee VirusScan Enterprise free of charge to all students, and can only provide technical support to students running this antivirus software. To prevent students from running ineffective antivirus software and to provide them with better technical support, all students are required to install McAfee VirusScan on their computers. Before you do this, however, you are strongly encouraged to remove any currently installed antivirus software to prevent software conflicts. Failure to do so can cause significant performance and stability issues. Please follow the instructions below to remove your unsupported antivirus software.
Instructions

Select the Start button in the lower-left corner of your screen. Then, select the Control Panel icon to view your Control Panels.

If you don't see the Control Panel icon, you may have your menu set to "Classic" mode. If so, first select the Settings menu, and then select Control Panel.

From the Control Panels windows, select the Add or Remove Programs icon.

If you are running Windows Vista, select the Uninstall a program link listed under Programs.

Next, you need to determine what antivirus software is currently installed.

Find the Cisco Clean Access Agent icon in your system tray, in the lower-right corner of your screen next to the clock. It should look like a green square, with a white key in the center.

If you don't see the icon, try selecting the Show hidden icons arrow button on the left side of the system tray. This will reveal less-frequently used system tray icons.

Click on the Clean Access Agent icon to reveal the Clean Access menu. From the menu, select the item labeled Properties.

You will be presented with a list of all antivirus and antispyware products currently installed on your computer. Look through the list, and note the Product Name of every entry whose Product Type is "AntiVirus". You will need to uninstall these products in the next step.

Return to the Add or Remove Programs window (or the Uninstall or change a program window in Windows Vista).
The following images show some of the most common antivirus programs and instructions for their removal. If you don't see your antivirus software in the examples below, removal instructions should be similar. Simply select your antivirus software from the list, and then select the Remove or Change/Remove button (or the Uninstall or Change button in in Windows Vista) and follow the on-screen instructions.

Trend Micro PC-cillin: From the list select Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security, and then select the Remove button. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the uninstallation process.

Norton 360: From the list select Norton 360, and then select the Remove button. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the uninstallation process.

If the uninstallation process is unsuccessful, please try running the Norton Removal Tool.

McAfee SecurityCenter: From the list select McAfee SecurityCenter, and then select the Change/Remove button. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the uninstallation process.

If the uninstallation process is unsuccessful, please try running the McAfee Consumer Products Removal Tool.

AVG: From the list select AVG, and then select the Change/Remove button. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the uninstallation process.

Other: If you don't see your antivirus software in the examples above, removal instructions should be similar. Simply select your antivirus software from the list, and then select the Remove or Change/Remove button (or the Uninstall or Change button in in Windows Vista) and follow the on-screen instructions.

When you have finished uninstalling your antivirus software, Restart your computer. When you connect to the Internet again, you will be directed to instructions on how to install Kent State University's licensed version of McAfee VirusScan Enterprise.
