Allerton Student and Family Housing
Allerton Office Hours
The Allerton Office (apt. 1150, Bldg. F) is open from 8 a.m. to
5 p.m. Monday through Friday. If you have any questions, please feel free to
stop by the office or call (330) 672-2595 for assistance.
After Hours Staff Coverage
A staff member is on duty at all times when the main office is
closed. This includes weekends and holidays and during the hours of 5 p.m.
through 8 a.m. weekdays.
To Contact Staff After Hours
Call the non-emergency number for the Kent State Police
Department. Upon calling, explain the nature of your call and the police
dispatcher can then contact the Resident Manager who is on duty to assist you.
In the event of an emergency, emergencies are defined as those situations that
pose a threat to the health and safety of persons and/or property, contact the
University Police Department directly at 911. Although lockouts and facilities
issues (i.e., overflowing sink), require an urgent response, they are not
considered 'emergency situations' unless they pose a threat to persons and/or
property. Follow the above procedure for contacting staff after hours so that
the staff on duty can determine how to best resolve the problem.
Lock-outs
If you are locked out of your apartment, you may come to the
office during business hours in order to obtain a temporary key. The temporary
key should be returned within 30 minutes. If you are locked out after hours or
on weekends, you should attempt to contact a staff member through the after
hours notification procedure (see To Contact Staff After Hours). Once
contacted, an RA will respond to assist. In order for you to be let into an
apartment, you must be a resident of the apartment or be on record at the
office (residents may be asked to provide identification in order to verify
their identity and residency). Children may also be issued temporary keys if
they are locked out of the apartment. This is primarily designed for latch-key
children. If parents do not want temporary keys issued to their children, they
must inform the Allerton Office staff in advance. Individuals not on a lease or
on record as an occupant of the apartment will not be given a temporary key or
granted access to the apartment by staff.
Activity Room / Meeting Area
An apartment has been set aside at Allerton that serves as an
emergency apartment, as well as a small meeting area for residents. The room
can be used for small groups (no more than 15) for parties, meetings or
gatherings. The room is available on a first-come first-serve basis and
therefore needs to be reserved in advance by calling the Allerton Office. Those
individuals using the room are expected to clean it when they are through,
otherwise a cleaning charge will be assessed.
Lost Keys
If you lose your apartment key, a temporary key will be issued
to you. However, if this key is not returned within three days, your lock will
be changed, and you will be charged for a new apartment key. Residents will
also be billed for lost mailbox, laundry room and study room keys. For safety
reasons you are encouraged to notify the office of any lost apartment keys and
have the apartment lock changed as soon as possible (you are financially
responsible for the cost of rekeying the apartment).
Bulletin Boards
Information of interest to the Allerton community may be posted
on the bulletin boards located in the laundry rooms. Flyers should not be
posted on doors and walls. Notices or flyers that you own should be brought to
the office so that staff can post them in their respective buildings.
Bus Service
Allerton is on the Kent City School's bus route. In addition,
the PARTA/Campus Bus Service also makes regular stops at Allerton. Campus bus
schedules are available at the Allerton office or by visiting
PARTA online.
Mail Service
Mail service is provided by the U.S. Postal Service. When giving
out your address, make sure you give your apartment number.
For example, if your apartment number is '1801', then your mailing address is:
JOHN DOE
1801 ALLERTON ST
KENT OH 44240
Mail delivered by the U.S. Postal Service will be placed in the locked mailbox
issued to each resident. These mailboxes are located in the laundry rooms.
Outgoing mail you have should be placed in the large U.S. mailbox located on
Allerton Street. Newspapers and magazines will be placed in the wooden mailbox
in the laundry room. Packages delivered by the U.S. Postal Service will be
delivered directly to your apartment. The Allerton Office is not permitted to
accept deliveries on your behalf. When moving from Allerton, please make sure a
change of address is submitted to the post office.
Maintenance Requests / Work Orders
Work orders for general repairs can be made by stopping by the
Allerton Office or by calling 672-2595. Requests for service should be called
in to the office as early as possible each day. Requests are prioritized daily
and are not necessarily completed in the order in which they are received.
Residents should be aware that they are financially responsible for any damage
not caused by normal wear and tear. A list of current charges is available
through the Allerton Office.
Telephone Services
A telephone connection is available in each apartment. It is the responsibility
of the resident to make all necessary arrangements in order to have phone
service. Residents are financially responsible for all telephone services.
