Visitation Policies for the Residence Halls

Escort Policy

Nonresident guests (including family members) must be escorted by a host at all times. Residents may find it helpful to explain this policy to friends and family prior to their arrival on campus. Residents may not leave their guests unattended in their rooms while away for an extended period of time (to attend class, go to a cafeteria, etc.). However, residents may leave their guests unattended in the room for a short period of time (five to 10 minutes), provided the resident is in the building or immediate area and the roommate(s) of the resident hosting the guest do not object.
NOTE: In addition, stairwells, bathrooms, lobbies and elevators within the residence hall are subject to the escort policy.

Joint Responsibility

The host (resident of the hall in which the guest is visiting) will be held accountable for the actions of his/her nonresident and/or resident guest within the residence halls. Residents are responsible for any and all violations that occur within their rooms, regardless of whether or not they are physically present in the room at the time of approach by a residence services staff member.

Hall Visitation Policy

Residence services staff reserve the right to require a guest to leave the floor/building when the guest(s) and/or host(s) is disruptive.

Visitation hours apply to the entire residence hall unless otherwise designated by hall staff. By majority vote of the students in the hall, residents may limit the hours that guests are permitted in the hall. Residence hall directors, in conjunction with the area coordinator, may impose limited visitation privileges to an individual, room, wing, floor or hall as a disciplinary action.
